In 2024, Holden and Australian motorsport fans celebrate the 40th anniversary of the famous 1–2 finish at the Bathurst 1000, where Peter Brock and Larry Perkins led the ‘Last of the Big Bangers’ in the #05 Holden VK Commodore to victory.

Known for its aggressive Group C styling, wide flares, Dunlop tyres, and iconic rear spoiler, Brock’s “Big Banger” became one of the most legendary cars in Australian motorsport. Debuting at Sandown in 1984, it raced just three times—winning on every occasion—before Group A regulations took over.

Purpose-built for racing, the cars featured lightweight shells overseen by Perkins and hand-built 308ci V8 engines producing over 400hp, paired with a Borg Warner Super T10 gearbox. Extensive pre-race testing ensured peak performance, culminating in Bathurst dominance and cementing Brock’s legacy as “King of the Mountain.”
